CONFIGURATION & ANALYSIS

ITI-RCS takes an iterative and proven approach to radome design and analysis. We first draw upon our experience to determine an initial radome configuration that is likely to meet your requirements. We then optimize the design using high fidelity electro-magnetic and structural analysis. Accurate 3D CAD, Finite Element Analysis, and Computational Fluid Dynamics models are used to predict lift, drag, and overturning forces under the specified environmental conditions. The forces placed upon the radome structure by environmental loads from wind, ice, snow, and shock are applied to the structural analysis to achieve a structurally compliant design with adequate safety factors to ensure we meet your needs.

Typically, ITI-RCS uses A-sandwich and C-sandwich radome configurations. The sandwich configuration chosen is dependent on the application and performance requirements of the antenna system. A-sandwich configurations are made up of three dielectric layers consisting of a low dielectric core with thin fiberglass skins on both sides. C-sandwich configurations are made up of five dielectric layers with two layers of core separated by three layers of fiberglass. The thicknesses of the core material and skins are adjusted as necessary to achieve optimum RF performance while maintaining adequate structural integrity. A-sandwich configurations provide excellent cost/performance benefits at lower frequencies while C-sandwich configurations display better RF performance at higher frequencies, but are more expensive due to complexity in the analysis and manufacturing processes.
